With approximately 550 m in length and up to 10 meters deep, it is the largest of the Mittersiller lakes. Its water is so clear that you can see to the bottom. The Hintersee and its beautiful surroundings with woodlands, pastures and furrowed by avalanches cliffs were declared in 1933 by the government of Salzburg natural monument. Even a popular destination, the Hintersee is also the starting point for hikes to the Plattsee, long lake and Upper Lake.
